QUIZ:   Your plan?

Solution:

I simulated 100 hands - I kept N/S cards as given; East was given the CK; and exactly H7-H8. Amazingly, in only 2 cases (2%) can 4S be made by South!

Case 1:

At trick 4, you need to overruff, and play a trump to the king straight away.

After East takes the ace he will probably play a diamond to West, then a club to East and another diamond (best defense). You have to ruff. Now a club to table and finesse trumps, draw and claim.

Case 2:

Here you need to discard the diamond (scissor's coup)! If you overruffed, East wins the SA-CK-then underleads his diamond for a club ruff.

With you discardng a diamond, East cannot reach his partner. You lose the heart ruff, a club and a trump, to make.

So what happened in actual play and how were the hands?

The Egyptian declarer discarded a diamond but went down. Unlucky this time.

To make the hand, declarer needed to overruff at trick 4 and play a trump.

In room 2, Jimmy Cayne and Lorenzo Lauria were spared the lethal club lead and made it comfortably.
